Welcoming Gigi: Our New Senior Software Engineer Leading Wellbeing App Development

Updated: Jul 16

We’re delighted to introduce Eugenia 'Gigi' Bonocore, our new senior software engineer. Over five years ago, Gigi moved into tech after a career in Education, bringing strong logic skills and a passion for learning. They now build web applications, specialising in PHP and Laravel, and are completing a master’s degree in Computer Science at Wrexham University.

Let's get to know Gigi and their story in their 'Meet the Team' Interview!

Where does your passion for education, safeguarding and wellbeing come from?

Gigi Bonocore, Senior Software Engineer for School Wellbeing App and Mood Tracker youHQ

I would say it comes from a passion for Literature. I grew up an avid reader. Teaching Literature to me was always a learning experience too, understanding other people's opinions on the books we were discussing. I'm a curious person, I got into education because of academia, actually. When I found out that academic research was a career field, that's when I got into education.

What attracted you to youHQ when we first met?

The mission of the app, for sure. I had a real hard time at school as a child, and an app like youHQ would have made a massive difference in my life.

If you could wave a magic wand, what would it do linked to wellbeing and safeguarding?

I guess I'd want to remove the stigma of reaching out for help. A lot of people don't talk about their difficulties with mental health and wellbeing because they don't want to expose themselves.

What’s one random fact most people don’t know about you?

The first time I went to uni it was to study Cinema and Audiovisual.

Favourite Film?

Favourite Song?

Any hobbies? What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time?

I play The Sims a lot! I've been playing it for 20 years, it's my favourite game.

We are thrilled to have Gigi join us at youHQ! Their passion for education and breadth of knowledge in PHP and Laravel makes them a perfect fit for the team. We can't wait to see Gigi's impact on our desktop and mobile apps, as we continue to innovate and elevate whole-school wellbeing.
