Help students grow in the direction that matters most…to them.

Goal setting isn’t just about ticking boxes. At youHQ, it’s about becoming the person you want to be.

Rooted in the principles of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), our approach supports students in identifying their personal values—the qualities that matter most—and setting goals that align with those values. Whether that’s compassion, courage, curiosity or kindness, students use these values as a compass for personal growth.

Values-based goal setting

Because growth isn’t one-size-fits-all.

Unlike traditional goal setting, which often chases outcomes (like grades or awards), values-based goals focus on how students want to live and act—every day.

  • Students explore and choose their core values

  • They set short, medium, and long-term goals inspired by these values

  • Each goal becomes a way marker, not a finish line

  • Progress is measured through action, reflection, and alignment—not perfection

Students don’t “fail” values-based goals. If a goal isn’t working, they reflect, adjust, and try again. It’s a healthier, more human approach to growth.

Built into daily school life

youHQ’s goal-setting tools help embed character education into your school culture:

  • Part of each student’s personal dashboard

  • Tied to values they’ve selected themselves

  • Points system (GOALd) encourages consistency, effort and reflection

  • Teachers can view student goals and progress via the dashboard

  • Supports PSHE, SEL and personal development frameworks

More than motivation. It’s transformation.

  • Students build a life toolkit of habits, behaviours and decisions grounded in what truly matters to them.

  • Teachers gain insight into student character, effort and self-awareness—often things that go unseen in traditional assessments.

  • And schools can evidence meaningful progress in personal development. Read about one of our incredible success stories >

What are values, anyway?

Values are the personal qualities we choose to live by. They shape how we treat others, how we face challenges, and how we want to be remembered. They’re not goals to be completed, but directions we commit to over time.

Some students may resonate with fairness, others with resilience or leadership. What matters is that the values feel real, personal and meaningful.

youHQ helps students discover, refine and stay connected to these values—while developing goals that reflect them in action.
