As part of our Meet the Team series, we are pleased to introduce our ambassador, Scot Meek. Scot is a business development professional with experience in EdTech and working alongside schools to implement digital wellbeing platforms.
Scot's upbringing across Asia drives his commitment to improving both belonging and student voice in education. In the interview below, Scot reflects on his experiences as a young person studying internationally - and more recently, as a dad and financial advisor.

Where does your passion for education, safeguarding and wellbeing come from?
It really comes from two places. The first is my own journey as an international student. I grew up across Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines before moving to New Zealand, so I experienced first-hand how important it is for a young person to feel safe, supported and like they belong.
The second is being a dad to my 9-year-old son. Seeing the school system through a parent’s eyes makes wellbeing and safeguarding feel very real and very personal. Every child deserves to be seen, heard and cared for, and that’s what drives me.
I started in recruitment and finance, moved into software and tech infrastructure, and then into EdTech working alongside schools to deliver wellbeing solutions. Today I’m a financial advisor, but staying involved with youHQ lets me keep contributing to something that makes a real difference for students.
What attracted you to youHQ when we first met?
To be honest, it was the passion. When I first met Jez at a conference, the purpose behind youHQ really came through. As a fellow parent, I immediately connected with the reasons he and Jon started the company. When I later met Jon, that same energy and commitment to making a real difference for young people was there too.
If you could wave a magic wand, what would it do linked to wellbeing and safeguarding?
I’d make sure every school had the resources to put more people on the ground focused purely on wellbeing and safeguarding. When the right support is available early, it changes the trajectory of a young person’s life.
What’s one random fact most people don’t know about you?
I had a short-lived job at a radio station in my final year of high school. Turns out my rock playlist wasn’t what their listeners were tuning in for.

Any hobbies? What’s your favourite thing to do in your spare time?
I still play basketball, though the recovery days are getting longer. Outside of that, I'm a comic book geek.
Please join us in giving Scot a warm welcome to team youHQ! As Scot said in his interview, when the right support is available early, it can change the trajectory of a young person’s life. We're excited to be working with Scot to further share our mission of supporting student wellbeing across the world.
