THE FUNDAMENTALS · 3 MIN READ
What is goal setting?
Pupils set small, personal goals they care about and track their progress.

THE KEY IDEA
It's not about pressure or perfection. It's about agency: helping children see they can shape their own journey, one step at a time.
What your child does
Pupils choose personal, social, academic or wellbeing goals, like drinking more water, being kinder to a sibling or finishing a piece of homework. They track their progress, reflect on how it's going and celebrate when they get there.
Why it helps
Small goals linked to what a child cares about build motivation that lasts. Children learn that effort leads to progress, and that setbacks are part of the process.
TRY THIS AT HOME
The one-step goal
Ask your child: "Is there something small you'd like to get better at this week?" Break it into steps together and check in at the weekend. Praise the effort, whatever the result.
